Chapter Twenty

Dirty move, McKenzie

“Isaid I’d let you use my room sans orgasms. I said nothing about being naked together.”

Rylan grinned without a lick of humility. And why should he? The man’s toned body radiated strength and confidence. Every bump, every muscle, and the hard length jutting over his belly button begged to be worshipped.

“Dirty move, McKenzie.”

I tried to keep my eyes on his face as much as possible, but then it moved, and my eyes followed.

“You don’t reach my position without stacking the cards in your favor.” He winked then left for the shower, giving me a spectacular view of his perfectly sculpted ass.

I quickly checked for drool and twiddled my thumbs together. I could join him, or I could stand here dripping wet and wait for my turn.

If I showered with him, then naughty things would happen.

I had wanted him earlier, but our fall in the gazebo cooled the tension. I gnawed on my bottom lip unsure which choice to make.

Then I waited for my magic to give me a sign— vomit flowers or a weird glow or anything to tell me I should or shouldn’t go into that bathroom.

Nothing. My magic was calm, peaceful even.

“Just see where it goes, Tempie.”

I tossed my hands to the side as if I could push the thoughts away and marched to the bathroom. I avoided looking at the man behind the glass shower door as I peeled off my soaked clothes. With my eyes safely fixed on the ground, I stepped inside the shower and into the spray.

A groan bubbled out of me as the warmth soaked into my skin. I knew he watched me. I knew those stormy eyes of his roamed over my nakedness. The body of a thirty-five-year-old woman. A woman who’d birthed a baby and didn’t make yoga and healthy food her priority. There would be no six pack on my body unless he closed the distance between us.

I had a pooch at the bottom of my tummy, varicose veins under my knees, and my boobs were not twenty-year-old perky. If he wanted someone younger or model-like, he could have chosen that. This is what he got with me. I owned every squishy fat cell, stretch mark, and scar.

“Can you hand me the soap?” I wiped the water from my eyes and opened them to see him staring at my face. “Did I miss the lake scum?” Did I have algae on my cheeks or something?

He shook his head. Without answering me, he grabbed a clean cloth from a pile on a little shelf and pumped his body wash into the middle. He looked at me, then the cloth, and back. “Dare I ask to wash you?”

“I’ll clean myself, thank you.” Taking the cloth from him, I got to work.

I scrubbed the lake off me while he watched my every movement. Then it was his turn, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

His body was pure perfection—like he’d been carved by a master of sculpting. Even at forty! I envied every bubble that cascaded down his tan skin.
